Academic Programs

Enrichment
One class block per day is devoted to enrichment classes. Students are based in these classes using test scores and teacher recommendation. Students who may need an extra boost in math or reading skills are placed appropriately in a small group setting that directly focuses on the goals or objectives in which the individual student is lacking. Other students participate in art, physical education, music, and advanced literature groups. Groups are altered by term to ensure that students are given every opportunity to address the skills that they need and to accommodate the entire population of the school.

Language Arts
The Language Arts program at North Dorchester Middle School revolves around the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum. Students use the new Glencoe textbook series along with various other novels and resources to aid in the learning process. Quarterly, students take the Scholastic Reading Inventory diagnostic test to determine reading levels, show improvement, and identify student needs to help teachers better gear instruction to the needs of the students.

Math
Using the Maryland Voluntary State Curriculum and the Dorchester County Pacing Guide, math teachers deliver instruction in Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. Eighth grade students who qualify for and participate in Algebra 1also take part in the High School Assessment (HSA).  The new Holt Textbook series is used at all grade levels to aid in the delivery of instruction. Students have the capability to access their textbooks online for additional assistance and tutoring.
